Joseph Kabila Says DR Congo Is in Danger, Calls for Urgent Solutions to National Crisis
Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo — October 9, 2026
Former Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) President Joseph Kabila Kabange has called for urgent measures to address the country’s political, security and economic challenges. He made the remarks in a speech addressed to the Congolese people on Friday, October 9, 2026.
In his address, Kabila criticized the administration led by President Félix Tshisekedi, arguing that the country is facing serious challenges that could threaten national unity and the functioning of state institutions.
Kabila Warns of a National Crisis
Joseph Kabila said that, in his view, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is going through a difficult period and needs concrete measures to resolve its pressing problems.
He addressed issues including national security, the conflict in eastern Congo, corruption, citizens’ freedoms and political divisions. He also criticized what he described as setbacks in democratic governance and weaknesses in state institutions.
Kabila further stated that proposals he presented on May 23, 2025, including a 12-point plan intended to help the country overcome its difficulties, had not been implemented as he had expected.
Calls for Political Dialogue
The former Congolese president reiterated his support for inclusive political dialogue involving different stakeholders, arguing that such discussions could help establish a lasting solution to the country’s problems.
He criticized the government’s treatment of political opponents and called for genuine dialogue rather than continued political confrontation.
Regarding security, Kabila noted that the conflict in eastern DRC remains unresolved and argued that new approaches are needed to address the violence and instability affecting the region.
Raises Concerns About Corruption and Governance
Kabila also accused the current administration of failing to adequately address the concerns of ordinary citizens. He raised issues related to corruption, the concentration of political power and what he described as the misuse of state institutions.
He further criticized what he characterized as the exploitation of ethnic and regional divisions, as well as unequal treatment among citizens.
These statements reflect Kabila’s allegations and assessment of the current administration. They should not be interpreted as judicially established findings.
Kabila Promises Further Proposals
Concluding his address, Joseph Kabila said he would continue presenting his views on the measures he believes are necessary to help the country overcome its current difficulties.
He indicated that, in the coming hours, days and weeks, he would provide further explanations to the Congolese people about the actions he believes are needed to address the country’s challenges.
His remarks come as the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to face security challenges in its eastern provinces, alongside political disagreements over governance and efforts to achieve lasting peace.
