The Rwanda national football team, Amavubi, drew with Kenya in a friendly match played this Monday at 6:00 PM at Amahoro Stadium.
Amavubi, having made several changes to their starting lineup, began the match controlling possession well, though mostly circulating the ball in their own half.
In the 10th minute, Amavubi got their first promising opportunity when Jojea Kwizera took a corner kick, and Emmanuel ‘Mangwende’ Imanishimwe directed a header toward goal, but the Kenyan goalkeeper came to the rescue.
Kenya also created chances in front of goal, notably when Stanley Wilson Omondi unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty box that went wide.
In the 42nd minute, goalkeeper Adolphe Hakizimana and defender Emmanuel ‘Mangwende’ Imanishimwe made errors that allowed Ryan Wesley Ogam Rabok to strike a shot, but Obed Uwumukiza quickly cleared the danger.
The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the second half, Amavubi made several substitutions, bringing off Kevin Muhire, Obed Uwumukiza, Abeddy Biramahire, and Samuel Guellette for Jean Gilbert Byiringiro, Joy Lance Mickels, Djihad Bizimana, and Hakim Hamiss.
These changes did not immediately alter the flow of the match, as reaching the penalty box remained difficult.
Amavubi made further substitutions, taking off Elia Tatou Iradukunda, Jojea Kwizera, Innocent Nshuti, and Adolphe Hakizimana, and bringing on Leroy Jacques Mickels, Taiba Mbonyumwami, Claude Niyomugabo, and Patience Niyongira.
In the 68th minute, Leroy Jacques Mickels attempted a shot, but the ball sailed just over the crossbar. The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Amavubi will return to the pitch to face Mali on November 11, 2026, in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
